My six nonfiction books include bestsellers on topics as diverse as heart attack prevention and haunted houses. I’m passionate about telling unusual true stories, shining a light on little-known facts and medical discoveries that can change lives, and keeping my readers intrigued and emotionally engaged as they turn the pages to learn more.
My career in publishing began when I started my own literary agency, Collier Associates, at age 23. Through selling more than 400 books, including many bestsellers, I gained expertise in all facets of the book publishing process, from recognizing money-making book concepts to adding sex appeal with enticing packaging and writing powerful prose that grabs an editor’s attention.
Most importantly, during my years as an agent, and later as a bestselling freelance writer with 20 writing awards, I’ve mastered the art of the publishing deal and winning strategies for turning ideas into income. Along with writing powerful persuasive book proposals, I also offer editing and ghostwriting services. If you need a book doctor, I can help you take an existing manuscript to the next level of excellence, so it’s ready to present to editors and literary agents.
My specialties include health, psychology, the supernatural, business, memoirs, general nonfiction, and how-to guides on publishing. In fact, I’m known as “the queen of queries,” due to my popular book, HOW TO WRITE IRRESISTIBLE QUERY LETTERS, which is widely used in writing classes. Bestsellers that I coauthored include these:
DELIVER US FROM EVIL: A NEW YORK CITY COP INVESTIGATES THE SUPERNATURAL, with coauthor Ralph Sarchie (St. Martin’s Press). Originally titled Beware the Night, the book reached #3 on the Amazon bestseller list and has been published in Russian, Japanese, Czech and Polish. In 2014, it was released as a major motion picture by Sony Screen Gems, starring Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn, and has earned nearly $90 million.
BEAT THE HEART ATTACK GENE: THE REVOLUTIONARY PLAN TO PREVENT HEART DISEASE, STROKE AND DIABETES, with coauthors Bradley Bale, MD and Amy Doneen, DNP, ARNP (Turner Publishing). Along with earning ave reviews, extensive publicity and sizable royalties, the book has appeared on several Amazon bestseller lists. The foreword is by talk show host (and heart attack survivor) Larry King and the preface is by former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and four-time Governor of Wisconsin Tommy Thompson. Both of them glowingly praise my coauthors’ passion for saving lives–and hearts.
